So, I decided get started with Golang, and the first thing I really needed was an IDE to work with. Luckily, thanks to the awesome efforts of Mihai Toader, Sergey, Alex and many others from the GO community, there already is a neat open-source plugin for Golang on the IntelliJ platform.

It actually simple to install, but not exactly straightforward because you need to select a couple of things. For those who are new (like me), here’s how to install the plugin on 14.1.x. You can also checkout the source of the plugin at Github – go-lang-idea-plugin

Note: To get started you should have already installed Golang. If you are on Ubuntu, you can have a look at this short tutorial to install Golang on Ubuntu. Otherwise just head-on to install the plugin.

Download the latest version of the IntelliJ 14.1.x

It works for both the commercial or community version of the IDE. Download IntelliJ IDEA 14.1
